Dramatherapy
"Dramatherapy has as its main focus the intentional use of healing aspects of drama and theatre as the therapeutic process. It is a method of working and playing that uses action methods to facilitate creativity, imagination, learning, insight and growth." - The British Association of Dramatherapists
The primary aim of Dramatherapy is to enable people to find ways of working through, coping with, releasing and healing difficult life situations, trauma, illnesses and emotional challenges. Importantly, Dramatherapy does not only use drama in the plainest sense of the word, but is accompanied with music, art, text, speech, stories, role, movement, ritual, play, games, masks, and costumes. The aim is to help clients to feel empathised and supported by working together with the therapist in the creative medium. Dramatherapy is used with groups and individuals of all ages and endeavours to facilitate a process of self development and growth by moving away from commonly experienced anxiety about having to "talk about it" and exploring within the safety of play, imagination and creativity.
I offer an introductory consultation of up to 1 hour. This is an opportunity for us to meet each other and decide how we would like to proceed with our work together. Any concerns around fees, timing and questions about how the therapy works can be discussed here.
An initial commitment of eight sessions is then undertaken to give enough time for issues to be addressed without rush or pressure. After reflection we will then negotiate how we want to continue with the length of therapy regularly reviewed and negotiated between us. It can vary from a ‘block’ of sessions (10-30 approximately) or up to 2 years and beyond, weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
**I CURRENTLY HAVE NO SPACE AVAILABLE BUT PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU WISH TO BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. **
